Week 46 Day 3

God Never Forsakes

Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

1 Peter 2:10

Fill’d with holy emulation

Let us vie with those above:

Sweet the theme—a free salvation,

Fruit of everlasting love.

God never deserts. That’s what the Bible says and what Abraham Lincoln believed. It’s almost hard to imagine how a man who endured so much pain, grief, and sorrow could maintain so much faith in God. But Lincoln stood firm in his belief that God could be trusted, through loss, war, and even up to his death. Shortly before his assassination, Lincoln told a crowd of citizens, “I turn, then, and look to the great American people, and to that God who has never forsaken them.” Have trials and tribulations reduced your faith in a God who never forsakes? Despite a seeming lack of evidence, Lincoln continued to believe. In fact, there were many times in his life when Lincoln was utterly disappointed, depressed, and dejected. There were times when God didn’t seem to answer his prayers. But his knowledge that God really was with him carried him through. God never forsakes.
