Week 47 Day 2

Be Guided by Your Principles

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:15

Why should our poor enjoyments here

Be thought so pleasant and so dear,

And tempt our hearts astray?

Our brightest joys are fading fast,

The longest life will soon be past;

And if we go to heaven at last,

We need not wish to stay.

Lincoln believed that in order to achieve victory, America must put first things first. He believed the foremost priority of the United States was to stay on track morally, to be true to its abiding and original cause of freedom, justice, and equality. He felt that America was to be guided by those principles and that everything ought to follow that moral compass. “If we do not allow ourselves to be allured from the strict path of our duty by such a device as shifting our ground and throwing us into the rear of a leader which denies our first principle, then the future of the Republican cause is safe, and victory is assured.” What’s your guide? Do you have a moral compass, or do you go through life aimlessly on shifting sand? Only those people who have a moral compass are able to withstand life’s tests. Like Lincoln, don’t allow yourself to be lured away.
