Week 48 Day 3

Use Sound Reasoning

Hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. . . . Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

1 John 3:19, 21

How happy are the new-born race,

Partakers of adopting grace!

How pure the bliss they share!

Hid from the world and all its eyes,

Within their hearts the blessing lies,

And conscience feels it there.

What’s the secret to Lincoln’s success? “Reason,” he said. “Cold, calculating, unimpassioned reason must furnish the materials for our future [national] support and defense.” Lincoln tried hard not to let his emotions get in the way of himself. He tried to look at situations without giving way to passions that might defer his better judgment. When you make important decisions, do you let reason or emotion drive your motives? Do you sometimes regret the things you do or say in the heat of the moment? Heed Lincoln’s advice—use your unimpassioned reason before you take action.
