Week 52 Day 5
You Can’t Please Everyone
We are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Philippians 3:3
The opening heavens around me shine
With beams of sacred bliss,
While Jesus shows his heart is mine,
And whispers, I am his.
In 1860 President Lincoln was asked to present a paper in defense of his views on slavery. Some of his supporters felt that he needed to press the issue more, to give more explanation as to why he believed slavery should be abolished. But Lincoln refused. He’d already spent a great deal of effort recruiting converts to his side. “I have already done this many, many times, and it is in print for all who will read,” he said. “Those who will not read, or heed, what I have already publicly said, would not read, or heed, a repetition of it. If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.” Lincoln’s point was that there comes a time to stop bargaining, to draw your line in the sand. There comes a time to stand up for what you believe in spite of what other people may say or think. You can’t please all the people all the time.
