Salah and Du’a: A Perfect Pair
One of the best times to raise our hands in Du’a is after completing our Salah. As we sit on our prayer mats after Salah, Allah is eagerly waiting for us to pray and plead so that He may answer and fulfil our needs. As Imam al-Sadiq (A) states, ‘Supplications after dawn, noon, and sunset prayers will be accepted.’
Du’a after Salah reflects our desire to sit with Allah, talk to Him, thank Him and seek His forgiveness in the moments of private intimacy that follow our Salah. Rather than rushing to complete our prayers, let us maximise our moment of closeness to Allah by opening our hearts and baring our sins, sorrows and needs before Him:
‘Flee to Allah for your needs and take
refuge in Him from your calamities, plead to Him and call upon Him;
for Du’a is the kernel of worship. There is no believer that calls
upon Allah except that He answers him; He either speeds up for him
[the granting of] his requests in this world, or He delays it for
him for the Hereafter, or He forgives his sins ...’
