Forsvarets Spesialkommando

The Norwegian Forsvarets Spesialkommando (FSK) is a highly trained and specialized special forces unit within the Norwegian Armed Forces. Established in 1982, the FSK has responsibility for conducting strategic and tactical special operations, both domestically and internationally, in a variety of complex environments and situations.

The FSK is made up of select soldiers drawn from various branches of the Norwegian Armed Forces, such as the Army, Navy and Air Force. Candidates must go through an extremely rigorous selection process that assesses not only their physical fitness and technical skills, but also their mental toughness, leadership, and ability to work effectively as a team under conditions of extreme stress. Only the most skilled and committed soldiers are selected to join this prestigious unit.

FSK training is intensive and covers a wide range of specialized disciplines, including advanced combat techniques, handling of specialized weapons and equipment, assault and reconnaissance tactics, infiltration and exfiltration operations, survival in various natural environments and intelligence skills. Members of the unit are prepared to operate in any environment, from arctic regions to urban areas and maritime areas.

The FSK's responsibilities include a variety of critical missions, such as counterterrorism operations, hostage rescue, special reconnaissance, sabotage, and support for conventional operations of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The unit is also trained to respond to international crises, participating in peace and security missions in collaboration with special forces from other allied countries.

Throughout its history, the FSK has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and effectiveness in carrying out its missions, establishing a reputation as one of the most capable and respected special forces worldwide. The unit works closely with its international counterparts in joint exercises and multinational operations, strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of special operations.
