The Special Forces Group (GRUFE) of Peru, also known as "The Commandos", is an elite unit within the Peruvian Army, specialized in highly complex and risky special operations. Officially established in 1952, the GRUFE has played a crucial role in national defense as well as participating in international peacekeeping and counterterrorism missions.
The members of the GRUFE are selected from among the best soldiers of the Peruvian Army. The selection process is extremely rigorous and is designed to evaluate not only physical fitness and tactical skills, but also mental toughness, leadership and the ability to work as a team under pressure. Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of motivation, dedication and commitment to the values and mission of the special forces.
GRUFE training is intensive and covers a wide range of specialized disciplines, including advanced combat techniques, weapons and explosives handling, assault and rescue tactics, infiltration and exfiltration operations, survival in various operational environments and intelligence skills. GRUFE members are prepared to operate in any environment, from urban areas to jungles and mountainous terrain, adapting to changing battlefield conditions.
GRUFE's responsibilities include a variety of critical missions, such as counterterrorism operations, combating drug trafficking, hostage rescue, and support for conventional operations of the Peruvian Army. The unit has also participated in peace missions under the auspices of the United Nations and in multinational operations in collaboration with special forces of other allied countries.
Throughout its history, GRUFE has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and effectiveness in fulfilling its missions. The unit has carried out successful operations both nationally and internationally, earning recognition for its ability to confront complex challenges and meet strategic objectives critical to Peru's security and regional stability.
