Poland's GROM special forces, officially known as Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego (Operational Response Group-Maneuver), are an elite special operations unit within the Polish Armed Forces. Founded in 1990, the GROM has been a crucial part of Polish national defense as well as an asset in international security and stabilization missions.
GROM was formed in response to the need for a highly trained and versatile unit capable of carrying out special operations both domestically and internationally. GROM members are selected from among the best Polish military forces, including the army, navy and air force. The selection process is extremely rigorous and focuses on physical fitness, advanced technical skills, leadership ability, mental toughness and the ability to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure.
GROM training covers a wide range of specialized skills, including advanced hand-to-hand combat techniques, weapons and explosives handling, assault and rescue tactics, infiltration and exfiltration operations, survival in various operational environments, and intelligence skills. GROM members are prepared to operate in any environment, from urban areas to mountainous terrain and maritime environments, adapting to changing and challenging battlefield conditions.
GROM's responsibilities include counterterrorism operations, hostage release, tactical intelligence, sabotage, special reconnaissance and support for conventional operations of the Polish armed forces. The unit has also participated in peace missions under the auspices of the United Nations and in multinational operations in collaboration with special forces of other allied countries.
Throughout its history, GROM has demonstrated a high level of professionalism, efficiency and success in fulfilling its missions. The unit has gained international recognition for its ability to confront complex challenges and meet strategic objectives critical to Poland's national security and regional stability.
