As I write, this container scheme is completely on trend as it uses the Pantone Colour of 2019 – Living Coral®. I used this vibrant shade to paint two trough planters and think it looks stunning against the soft grey backdrop. You could do this with any colour of the season for an on-trend look. The integrated bench supporting the planters is painted the same light grey – the overall effect is one of modern sophistication.

The planting is dominated by two colours: pink and dark purple, which complement but don’t overpower the look of the planter. The light pink double flowers of Cinderella Series stock are wonderfully scented and long-lasting, making them a late-spring must-have, while the pretty pink flowers of ‘Rubrifolia’ thrift sit above dark copper-coloured foliage. This perennial is evergreen, which means the striking foliage will add some colour later in the year once the main flush of flowers is over. Cascading over the sides of the planters are the highly decorative, purple-black leaves of ‘Trailing Black’ morning glory, which contrast beautifully with the coral colour.
