The following days after Lindsay left with Preston, Dino tried to move on. He threw himself into his work, both at the clinic and singing in the nightclub. Still, he couldn’t get Lindsay out of his thoughts. Dino needed to know why she left and was planning to marry Preston. Nothing made sense. He also worried about her safety. Little did he know she was being watched over by angels.
Adrian and Arthur continued to monitor Ciro’s actions. The fallen angel was smug about winning this latest battle. Preston had Lindsay; Dino had lost her. Ciro humiliated Martin Graham into submitting to Beckett’s control. Jonas had become obsessed with his plans. It was time to remove the people in his way by any means necessary. Ciro loved it when things became irrational and reckless. Humans did bad things in that state of mind.
Adrian and Arthur were given a foreshadowing of events to come. It would test everyone to their limits, even angels. Arthur warned his brother angels throughout the city to be alert. They stood ready to help. Things were coming to a crossroads between the immortals. It was inevitable a battle with Ciro and his minions was on the horizon.
On a positive note, Dino’s success with little Nicky gave him a renew sense of accomplishment knowing he was once again a surgeon. His confidence soared. Arthur knew it would. Dino’s talent and ability came back tenfold. What he had lost was now his again. That development gave the angels hope Dino was turning his life around and returning to the purpose it was intended to be.
Yet despite this surge of hope, Lindsay was still in trouble. Dino saw no way to help her. If he could only talk to her, alone and away from Preston, but she was off limits. Beckett had made that clear. Once she moved into the Beckett home, Lindsay’s freedom would be gone forever. Time was getting short and Dino had to act.
Always positive, intern Peter/Adrian tried to cheer up things both at the clinic and with Dino at the club performing. Rosie tried too, baking him cookies. But Dino was all business, in the clinic and at the club singing. Between Hank and Mark/Arthur, who were trying to encourage him not to give up on Lindsay, Dino had many supporters. One supporter he didn’t expect was Miss Julia.
Dino was finishing with a patient when Rosie found him. The clinic had been unusually busy today and there hadn’t been a spare moment to give the doctor a message. Rosie heard from Miss Julia. Without hesitation, she told Arthur first. She needed the angel’s instructions. Now that Rosie knew Adrian and Arthur were sent from Heaven to minister to Dino, among other things, she confided in Arthur about Miss Julia’s call. He agreed the idea was sound.
Finally, she cornered the doctor in the supply room when he went to get some medicine and shut the door behind her. Dino wheeled around and faced her with a confused stare.
“Rosie, what the heck? Why did you shut the door? Mr. McMillan is waiting. It’s his gout again, flaring up.”
“It’s about time you stopped for a few minutes. I have to talk to you and before I can catch you, there you go again.”
Dino crossed his arms over his chest and tilted his head slightly. “So, trapping me in the supply room is your answer? Okay, what is it that is so important?”
Rosie frowned. “It’s not trapping you, but I have to speak to you in private.”
Dino’s face changed. “Is something wrong, Rosie?”
“Everything is wrong since you and Lindsay parted ways. You just aren’t yourself without her.”
Dino looked down at the floor. “Nope, nothing will ever be the same.” He raised his eyes to Rosie’s gentle ones. “I have to move on. She’s made her choice, right or wrong, it’s her choice. I must respect it. I’m still here if she needs me, but only as a friend.”
“It’s not a choice. She’s trapped.” Rosie stubborn streak came out. “Well, that’s situation is about to change. We aren’t giving up so soon. Mrs. Graham called.”
“Miss Julia? What did she want?”
“She’s the only one Lindsay has talked to. She told me to tell you, Lindsay still loves you and always will. She’s deeply sorry for any pain she has caused you. She misses you.”
Dino sucked in a deep breath. “I miss her too, very much. My love for her hasn’t changed. What else did Julia say? Is Lindsay okay? When is the wedding?”
“Lindsay put it off for a month. She wants to see you, but is afraid,” Rosie said.
“Afraid? Why?” Dino’s concern turned to anger. “Has Preston hurt her? I swear it’ll be the last thing he does.”
Rosie patted Dino’s arm to calm him, “She’s not afraid of what he will do to her, but what he would do to you. Anyway, that’s what Mrs. Graham said. I believe her. I never liked that guy from the moment I met him. Shifty little creep that Preston.”
Dino leaned up against the wall and wondered. “Lindsay really wants to see me?”
“Yes, and Mark says he has a plan. I talked to him about this.”
“A plan? You mean a way I can see Lindsay?” Dino asked.
Rosie opened the door to the supply room, and Dino followed her. “Yes, and he wants to talk to you. Peter is helping him. They’re planning to bring Lindsay here to see you. It’s time she explained herself.”
“No kidding?” Dino’s eyes widened. “But what about the guards Preston has at her house watching over her?”
Rosie smiled, knowing something Dino didn’t. “Oh, I wouldn’t worry about them. Mark has it under control. He and Peter are what you might call unusually resourceful.”
Dino was thrilled. “When is this going to happen?”
“Tonight, after you’re done with your singing job. Hank will wait to pick you up and drive you to the clinic. It must look as if nothing is out of the ordinary. Hank will go on home in case anyone is watching you.’”
Dino’s eyebrows shot upward. “Seriously? Do you really think Beckett has people watching me?”
“Wouldn’t you if you thought the woman your son was going to marry loved someone else?”
Dino nodded his head. “I guess so. Preston’s jealousy is out of control and his father treats Lindsay like his property. Preston is so scared I’m going to take her away.”
Rosie agreed. “Peter and Mark will bring Lindsay to your apartment. She’ll be waiting for you when you get home.”
“I don’t know how they will pull it off, but I don’t care. Just so long as I can see her, that’s all that matters.”
“Mark is waiting for you in Hank’s office. I’ll have Peter finish with Mr. McMillan.”
Handing over the bottle of pills, Dino gave Rosie a kiss on her soft, brown cheek. “You’re a doll. Thank you.”
Rosie smiled. “I believe in you Doc and I believe God has a plan for you and Lindsay. Just call it a feeling, but I wouldn’t be surprised if angels are watching over you both. You’ve come so far. There’s just a little way more to go. She will be with you again. I know it.”
“How do you know?” Dino didn’t understand what seemed to be a hidden meaning behind Rosie’s words, but it gave him courage.
Her new arrangement with Arthur and Adrian gave Rosie insider knowledge on heavenly duties. How blessed she felt being a friend to angels. Plastering a huge grin on her face, Rosie winked at Dino.
“Trust me, I know. I’ve got friends in ‘high’ places.”
