Charles A. Lowenhaupt is one of the world’s most respected experts on wealth management for ultra-high-net-worth families. Lowenhaupt is the founder and chief executive officer of Lowenhaupt Global Advisors, LLC, which serves global families of significant wealth. He is also managing member of the affiliated law firm Lowenhaupt and Chasnoff, LLC, which was founded by his grandfather in 1908 as the first U.S. law firm to concentrate in income tax law.
Lowenhaupt is a founding advisory faculty member of the Institute for Private Investors, and he advises the Institute as an emeritus member of the advisory faculty and contributor to its programs. Until recently, he served with Don Trone as a director of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies in Pittsburgh. With Trone, he founded the Institute of Wealth Management Standards and now serves as president of the Institute. Lowenhaupt has a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University. He also has a juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School and is a member of the Order of the Coif. He is a member of the bar of New York and Missouri.
Lowenhaupt brings to this volume the experience of working with wealth holders and their families for more than 100 years. Six generations of families have worked with three generations of the Lowenhaupt family dating back to 1908. In addition, Lowenhaupt draws on his involvement and conversations with wealth holders and trusted advisors around the world. Insights from those conversations inform his views about wealth management and serve as a catalyst for much of what he writes and does professionally.
Donald B. Trone is the CEO (Chief Ethos Officer) of 3ethos, is the former director of the United States Coast Guard Academy Institute for Leadership, and is the founder of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies.
Trone has been named by numerous organizations as “one of the most influential people” in the retirement, financial planning, and investment advisory industries. In 2003, he was appointed by the U.S. secretary of labor to represent the investment counseling industry on the ERISA Advisory Council, and in 2007, he testified before the Senate Finance Committee on fiduciary issues associated with retirement plans investing in hedge funds.
Trone graduated as president of his class from the United States Coast Guard Academy and served on active duty for ten years, including six years as a long-range search-and-rescue helicopter pilot. He received his master’s degree in financial services from the American College and has completed postgraduate studies at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Trinity Episcopal Seminary.
Trone brings to this book the Ethos framework—the discipline, rigor, and process that binds principles to standards. His approach is drawn from spending the past 25 years developing standards and training programs for investment fiduciaries.
