quick & easy makeover

This kitchen gained a fresh perspective with painted cabinets, new appliances and fixtures, and pretty shelving.

The layout in this galley kitchen worked well—the space just needed some freshening up to make it feel open and inviting. To save money, designer Donna Talley retained some of the existing cabinetry—updating the look with a coat of sage green paint—and replaced some of the upper cabinets with decorative shelving to lighten the look in the small prep zone. New stainless-steel appliances offer modern convenience, and new light fixtures and window treatments add sophisticated style. To unite the cooking zone with the adjacent step-down dining area, the team extended the kitchen countertop to create a convenient dining peninsula that makes smart use of existing space.

The cleanup zone gets a new look with a pretty valance and a bronze pendant light. A new, deeper sink makes washing large pots easy.

A repurposed hutch was painted and topped with a new countertop to create a handy bar and serving area. Linens are stored in the hutch’s wide drawer, while new pullout shelves corral additional bar items below.
