Natural materials and pampering amenities set a soothing tone in a bath that successfully brings modern luxury to a traditional home.
When this Victorian house was built, bathrooms were simply utilitarian spaces. But the modern-day owners longed for more; they envisioned a calming retreat with spa-like luxuries and soothing colors. Architect Aleck Wilson helped them achieve their goal, borrowing square footage from an adjacent bedroom to gain space for a walk-in shower, built-in tub, dual vanity, and separate toilet compartment for added privacy. To marry the modern-day amenities with the home’s traditional architecture, Wilson retained the original double-hung windows and tall ceiling and focused on timeless, natural materials. Limestone brings a muted, organic look to the floor, countertop, and tub surround, while ipe wood slats define a drying-off area beside the shower. Glass tiles in shimmering sea green tones dress up the bathroom’s walls and help create the room’s soothing atmosphere that allows the worries of the outside world to quietly slip away.
Sleek fixtures, streamlined hardware, and modern mosaic tile give this remodeled bath a clean, contemporary look. Original double-hung windows guarantee abundant natural light for grooming tasks.
Built-in cabinets at one end of the vanity offer discreet storage for everyday toiletries. Teak wood unites the custom built-ins and vanity. |
