Oxford is synonymous with its university, the oldest in Britain, with historically interesting colleges, such as Christ Church, New College and Magdalen. Oxford also has plenty of non-university attractions, including the Ashmolean Museum, home to one of Britain’s finest provincial collections, and the Pitt Rivers Museum, a delightfully old-fashioned Victorian ethnographic treasure-trove. The Covered Market, selling food and clothing plus all sorts of other things, is also worth a visit.
