Morgan & Seth’s Wacky Beans

These beans were created one day when I needed a side dish for some barbequed ribs. I wanted a twist on the plain baked beans most people serve. They have a unique sweet-hot taste that everyone seemed to enjoy, and I have received several requests to make them for family dinners and barbeques. They are even better the second day.

1 small onion, diced

1 pound ground beef

2 (15-ounce) cans drained pork and beans

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 cup ketchup

½ cup prepared mustard

1 tablespoon hot mustard powder

¼ cup honey mustard

¼ cup A1 sauce

¼ cup Heinz 57 sauce

Dash of hot sauce (10 drops)

½ tablespoon freshly ground peppercorns

In a large skillet on medium heat mix and brown the onion and ground beef. Add the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, prepared mustard, hot mustard powder, and honey mustard. Stir and bring to a boil over medium heat. Add the A1 sauce, Heinz 57 sauce, hot sauce, and peppercorns. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 30 minutes.

YIELD: 15 SERVINGS
