Vanilla Ice Cream

This recipe is from Peggy Hawkins, catering director at Blue Willow’s Magnolia Hall in Social Circle. It is one of the best homemade ice cream recipes we have tried.

4 cups granulated sugar

3 eggs

3 tablespoons vanilla extract

1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk

Whole milk

In a large bowl combine the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and evaporated milk and mix well. Pour this mixture into the cylinder of an ice cream maker and add whole milk to the fill line. Put the lid on the cylinder and pack a layer of ice and rock salt around the cylinder. Crank the ice cream maker to freeze the ice cream.

Hint: You can add 2 cups of any coarsely chopped sweetened fruit, such as strawberries, for a different flavor.
