Mama’s Ginger Molases Cookies

¾ CUP OF SHORTENING

1 cup sugar

2 Tablespoons of blackstrap molasses

2 Tablespoons of maple syrup

1 egg

2 cups of flour

½ teaspoon of cinnamon

½ teaspoon of cloves

½ teaspoon of ginger

½ teaspoon of salt

2 teaspoons of baking soda

1 teaspoon ground ginger

2 large eggs

3 1/2 cups all purpose

Extra sugar for dusting

Sift flour and measure. Add cinnamon, cloves, ginger, salt, and soda. Sift again. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and mix thoroughly. Add molasses and syrup and mix well. Stir in flour mixture. Chill thoroughly. Roll dough into small balls in palm of hand. Roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 375 F. As these bake, they flatten to form perfect rounds, so please place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Makes 4 to 5 dozen..
