Elvey, George Job
English, 1816–1893. Born in Canterbury, he studied music, specifically organ, with private instructors and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He received his bachelor of music and doctor of music degrees from Oxford University. For forty-seven years he held the position of organist at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. During this time he was music teacher to several members of the British royal family. He was honored by Queen Victoria with a knighthood in 1871.
