Gabriel, Charles H.
American, 1856–1932. He was born in humble circumstances in Iowa, but early followed his family’s interest in music. He saw his first piano at age fourteen, and by the time he was twenty he was becoming well known as a composer. He settled in Chicago, became known to important music publishers in that area, and soon found that his songs were in wide demand. He edited more than a hundred volumes of religious music.
