Hart, Edward L.

LDS. American, 1916–2008. He was born in Bloomington, Idaho. One of eleven children reared on a farm, he went on to distinguish himself as a track runner and a scholar at the University of Utah, where he was chosen as a Rhodes scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received a master of arts degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from Oxford University. He taught English for thirty years at Brigham Young University and held a Fulbright Fellowship for study in Pakistan. His first recognition as a poet came in high school, and he has published poetry in various journals. For eight years he served on the board of the Utah Arts Council. He also served as the bishop of a BYU ward. He and his wife, Eleanor Coleman, were parents of four children.
