Jaques, John
LDS. English-born American, 1827–1900, born in Leicestershire. After his baptism into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1845, he carried out missionary work in England, finally emigrating to America in 1856. He was a member of the ill-fated Martin Handcart Company, and his eldest daughter was among those who died before they were rescued from the snowstorms. He served again in England as a missionary from 1869 to 1871, and after his return he worked for the Deseret News. For seventeen years he served as assistant Church historian.
