Kooyman, Frank Iemke

LDS. Dutch-born American, 1880–1963. A native of Terschelling, he became a Latter-day Saint at age nineteen and served as a missionary in his native Holland for three years. He then emigrated to Utah and worked as a bookkeeper while maintaining vigorous Church activity. He served a second mission in the Netherlands and was eventually called to preside over that mission. He translated many hymns and important Church volumes into Dutch and assisted with the editing of the 1948 LDS hymnbook. (The first syllable of Kooyman rhymes approximately with boy.)
