Parker, Horatio William

American, 1863–1919. Born in Auburndale, Massachusetts, he showed early musical talent, and after study in Munich became an organist and choirmaster in Boston and New York City. In 1894 he became the first chairman of the music department at Yale, a position he held until his death. As well as writing hymns, he composed music for organ, choir, and orchestra. He is remembered as an important composer in the history of American music.
