Penrose, Charles William

LDS. English-born American, 1832–1925. Born in London, he was baptized a Latter-day Saint at age eighteen and spent seven years in missionary work in England. In 1861 he emigrated with his wife and family to America, settling in Farmington, Utah, then moving to Ogden after he returned from a second period of missionary work in England. He is noted for his work as assistant Church historian, as editor of the Deseret News, as a writer of missionary tracts, as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve (1904), and as a Counselor in the First Presidency to President Joseph F. Smith and President Heber J. Grant.
