Rankin, Jeremiah Eames
American, 1828–1904. Born in Thornton, New Hampshire, he was a Congregationalist minister who probably derived the fervor and vigor of his preaching from his Scottish ancestors. He held several different posts as pastor until 1889, when he became president of Howard University, Washington, D.C. He edited a number of volumes of gospel-song hymns.
