Russell, Henry H.

English, 1812–1900. Though his life began and ended in England, he spent many years in the United States, where he made his living as a concert singer. For a time he also served as organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester, New York. He wrote many of the popular songs of his day, including “Woodman Spare That Tree” and “A Life on the Ocean Wave.”
