Tanner, John Sears
LDS. American, born 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah, He grew up in South Pasadena, California, one of thirteen children. After attending Brigham Young University, where he graduated with highest honors, and after serving a mission in Brazil, he enrolled in graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley, where he received a doctorate in English. He has taught at Florida State University and at BYU, where he has chaired the English Department and is presently serving as Academic Vice President. He has also served as bishop and stake president as well as in other church callings. His principal scholarly interest is Milton, Shakespeare, and other writers of the English Renaissance. He is married to Susan Winder, the former Young Women General President, and they are the parents of five children.
