Tomer, William Gould
American, 1833–1896. He acquired his musical training through attending singing schools and singing in choirs. After serving in the Pennsylvania infantry during the Civil War, he worked as a federal employee in Washington, D.C., for twenty years. During this time he was also music director for Grace Methodist Episcopal Church. The last years of his life were spent teaching school in New Jersey.
