Yorgason, Laurence M.

LDS. American, born 1937 in Ogden, Utah. A student of music from age five, he played the piano, tuba, and string bass. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music theory and a master’s degree in history from Brigham Young University. He served a mission in Norway. He taught in Latter-day Saint seminaries and institutes of religion for

more than twenty years. In 1993 he retired from the Church Education System. Since that time he has worked as a freelance bass player. He has taught bass and jazz subjects part-time at BYU, the University of Utah, Weber State University, and Utah State University, and he has been involved with many jazz performance and festival productions. He is currently writing a history of jazz music in Utah. He has served in many Church callings, including that of bishop. He is married to Kay Lynne Olsen, and they have six children.
