Allen, James

English, 1734–1804. Born in Yorkshire, he was educated for the ministry but was not satisfied with the established church. He joined the Sandemanians (or Glassites), a group that did not have a paid clergy. He built a chapel on his own estate and ministered to the congregation there until his death.
