Dibble, Philo
LDS. American, 1806–1895. Born in Massachusetts, he heard the Latter-day Saint missionaries in Kirtland, Ohio, and was baptized by Parley P. Pratt in 1830. Known as a staunch friend of the Prophet Joseph Smith, he raised money to pay the debt on the Kirtland farm where Joseph Smith was living. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Mormon militia. His journal accounts of mob actions, tribulations, and other historical events in the early days of the Church make him an important eyewitness to the unfolding of Mormonism. He was a resident of Springville, Utah, at the time of his death.
