Durham, George Homer

LDS. American, 1911–1985, born in Parowan, Utah. He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Utah and his doctorate from the University of California at Los Angeles. He was director of the institute of government at the University of Utah and head of the political science department, then vice-president of the university. He became president of Arizona State University in 1960, serving for nine years. After seven years as Utah commissioner of higher education, he became director of the historical department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to holding numerous advisory and volunteer positions, he became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1977.
