JOSÉ SELIGSON

José Seligsons primary interest has always been color and texture more than form or content, so when he first experimented with watercolor and discovered how it could be manipulated with various tools on different surfaces, a whole new world of art possibilities opened up. He began to use tools such as sponges, syringes, rubbing alcohol, spray bottles, coffee filters, nonporous paper, chopsticks, and anything else he could find to create his compositions. After years of assiduously avoiding the medium, he declares, I was smitten. In his words, watercolor enables the color to come to life in ways that other media do not permit, and the textures are of an idiosyncratic nature.
