FOURTEEN

SHARIECE

Three weeks had passed after Leandra’s accident. She had been released two days after getting a clean bill of health. I hadn’t talked to Emjay much when he decided to stay with Leandra for a while to make sure that she was doing well. Our relationship was nonexistent. I thought about calling him, but I felt it best to give him his space. He’d almost lost his mother. I thought about Leandra often. I stopped eating at our favorite restaurants like Crispers and Bella Bella because it was too painful. I still care a great deal about them both, but I couldn’t put my own life on hold. I had a career, students that depended on me. I drowned myself in school work, catching up on grading and planning, tasks that had fallen by the wayside before all this high-octane drama ensued with me, Leandra and Emjay. A few weeks ago, Rochelle had offered me a full-time position with a pay increase. I had happily accepted. With everything that had happened, I needed a touch of good news.

I longed for Emjay’s touch, those firm, muscular arms holding me, his lips pressed against mine. I would pull out my vibrator from the nightstand; shut my eyes and think of Emjay. I would touch myself under a desk piled with papers, thinking of his head between my thighs.

I was grading papers when I got a knock on my door. I had a ten o’clock appointment to speak with a student about an idea he had for a short story, so I figured it was her. When I’d opened the door to find Emjay standing there, I was in complete awe. He was dressed in a black and gray Coogi sweat suit.

“Hey, can we talk?”

I didn’t say a word, but just invited him in. I was ecstatic to see him, but I wasn’t going to show my behind just yet. I walked around my cluttered desk and sat down like Emjay was simply another student. I was curious to know the meaning behind his visits. I continued grading, failing to give him eye contact.

“How have you been?” he asked, as if to assume I was a mess without him.

“Just trying to get some work completed here before Thanksgiving break.”

“I saw on my essay that you gave me an A.”

“It was a good, well-written essay. You deserve it.” I paused. “How’s Leandra doing?”

“Good. She went back to work a week ago. Said she couldn’t stand all the sitting around at home. Taj picked her up from the hospital. He takes care of her, gives her what she needs. I’m just glad I’m not at her beck and call anymore.” He grinned.

“You know how Leandra is. High maintenance.”

“That’s true.”

“I thought that you blamed me for what happened at your place that night.”

“No, of course not.”

“The night of the accident, when I tried to console you, you jerked away. Why?”

“Shariece, that was a crazy night; emotions were high. I completely shut down when I saw her lying in that hospital bed. Everything flashed before my eyes. I heard ‘accident’ and ‘hospital,’ and freaked out.”

“I was upset, too, Emjay. It wasn’t easy for me to see my best friend of eleven years lying there like that. This situation with Leandra made me think how much we take for granted, how we lose sight of what matters most, like family and friends. If she came to me and said that she didn’t want anything to do with me, I would be upset, but I would have to live with her decision. This might sound selfish, and right now, I don’t care, but I’m not going to put my life and my happiness on hold for anyone.”

“Well, Mama is who I came here to talk to you about. I talked with the officer the day after the accident, and he told me that he did an investigation. He told me that Ma may have purposely run off the road that night.”

I got up and began pacing my office. “What? Why would she do something that crazy?”

“She was pretty upset when she left my apartment that night. When I confronted her with the cop’s findings, she said she would rather be dead than to see me with you.”

I knew how cruel Leandra could be when she didn’t get her way. A high-riding witch in a hurricane.

“Jesus, what the hell was she thinking?”

“She told me that she’ll cut me off, that she won’t pay my rent or tuition and close my bank account if I didn’t stop seeing you.”

“Emjay, this whole thing has gotten out of control. I don’t want to stand in the way of you and Leandra rebuilding your relationship.”

“I told her no, I’m not giving up on you. I meant what I said that night. I love you, Shariece, and that hasn’t changed.”

“What if she goes to my boss and tells her about us?”

“She won’t if she doesn’t want to lose me.”

“You shouldn’t underestimate Leandra.”

“She can’t hurt us as long as we stick together.”

He slid those arms around me, hugging me close. I missed Emjay’s touch. He kissed along the nape of my neck, licking me, driving me crazy with his touch. I could feel his erection against my ass. When I turned to face him, he pressed his lips against mine.

“Wait.” I went to lock the office door. Emjay slid the papers off the desk and sat me on top. “You’re crazy, you know that?”

Emjay slipped off my panties. We laughed as he tugged on the heel of my black platforms. I undid my blouse. I didn’t want him busting off the buttons. My nipples were hard in my black bra that was off in two seconds flat. Emjay swirled his tongue around my nipples, sucking them past his juicy lips. My pussy was wet due to his advances, hungering for something more than my fingers or some sex toy that required batteries. I reached inside his Coogi sweat pants and fisted out his dick that throbbed hard in my hand. He fell into me, maneuvering his dick past the lips of my sweet center. My pussy devoured his dick like she had a mind of her own. I felt him stretching me, thrusting deep, sending shockwaves of ecstasy through my body. Damn! Two weeks of sexual frustration was literally being fucked out of me.

“Tell me you love me,” Emjay said.

“I love you.”

“Do you love me?”

“I love you.”

Emjay moaned and grunted until we both came in a synchronized orgasm.

“I love you,” Emjay said breathlessly.

“I love you, too.”
