The 50 Francis Street Photographer
image is full of character and spirit, and each has a story to tell.
Many people passed through the doors of 50 Francis Street,
and each had their own reasons for having a photograph taken.
Many people paid for their photographs over a number of
weeks, paying a deposit when the picture was taken and the
remainder on collection. My granddad developed and processed
all of these photographs from his darkroom.
‘Dad was happiest when he had a camera in his hand. They
say you should choose a job you love and you will never have
to work a day in your life, and he was so lucky because that
applied to him. He must have said, “Big smile, now, watch the
birdie” a million times.’ Pauline
