The ‘iron lung’ (a barrel of stout) was carefully brought into
the house and set up so that pints of porter could flow freely.
Babycham, snowballs or a glass of sherry were produced for
the posh auntie. A good hooley could last well into the night
and a round of sandwiches, crubeens (pigs’ feet) and ribs would
be produced to soak up the alcohol.
