YOUR FEET

Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

—1 JOHN 2:6 ESV

I sort of love my feet. Unlike my sausage fingers, my toes are pretty well shaped. I love getting pedicures, and in fact, I’ve been pondering what color I’d like to use, and I’m seriously considering a bright-yellow polish color.

I’ve wanted it for a while, but my friends have peer-pressured me away from it the last few times, encouraging other shades, like various pinks. But I can’t resist the urge for yellow anymore. And I’m choosing to view it as a brave color choice, okay?

When I was a kid, I used to wear tennis shoes all the time. As a soccer player and a tomboy, I always picked them. Tennis shoes are a safe choice—they stay in place (unlike flip-flops, which can flip here or flop there), they’re comfortable (unlike most high heels), and they last for quite a while. Actually, now that I’m thinking it through, I still really love them.

Tennies allow us to do some amazing things with our feet, but one of the truest ways to glorify God with your feet is to lead. Lead people toward an abundant life and toward a real relationship with a real God. Lead people away from sin and choices that cause pain. Lead people with the way you live.

One of the truest ways to glorify God with your feet is to lead.

For many, leading anyone or anything is terrifying. For others, it feels natural—like the absolute best. But no matter how you’re wired, using your feet to lead people takes bravery.

In the long run, you need to remember one thing: whether you’re wearing bright-yellow toenail polish, helping out an elderly neighbor by mowing her grass, or washing the clothes of street kids in India, you were made to walk like Jesus walked. To serve. Because of God’s great love for us, we can love and lead others. And we don’t have to be afraid. We can be brave.

So take those feet and start walking and talking. Have courage and let your feet lead you down the path God has for you.

BE BRAVE: What are some places where you are already leading? Thank God for them, and ask Him for even more opportunities.
