Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
—1 CORINTHIANS 15:58 NIV
Let’s talk more about my stint at the Local Taco because, thanks to good Mexican food, I was still able to operate in my calling there (and eat delicious tacos on the regular).
If my calling is to entertain people long enough that they learn something, I could do that at the Local Taco! I helped people figure out what tasted good and sort through the options, all while feeling like they are talking to a friend. I was just me, doing the job that was right in front of me.
You can be fully you wherever you are. And it’s your choice.
So are you brave enough to find your calling at your not-quite-it job?
Let’s say your dream is to be a nurse. Are you brave enough to say, “I’ve always dreamed of being a nurse because I love taking care of people. And here I am working at a restaurant. But, hey, I still can take care of people. I can’t save their lives, but I can take care of my coworkers and take care of my customers.”
You can be fully you wherever you are. And it’s your choice.
Can you look around the life you have and find ways that your calling is already there, even if your job doesn’t look the way you thought it would look?
No matter who signs your paychecks, God believes in you. He believes in all the ways He made you unique. He believes in all the dreams bubbling inside your heart. He believes in your ability to take hold of the tiny ledge that is your next call to courage.
I believe in you too. I believe you picked up this book for a reason and the idea that your life could be different after 100 days of focusing on courage matters to you. You want to be brave. In your middle place—I like to call it the “knower,” somewhere between your chest and your backbone—you know you want to be brave.
You can be brave and find your calling no matter what your job is now and no matter where you may work in the future. You are one of a kind, made on purpose, deeply loved, and called to be courageous.
BE BRAVE: Can you list a few reasons that the job you have today is the exact right one for this season?
