Living and Breathing
Devotion

To integrate all that you just read and to actualize it in your life experience, choose to perform at least three of the exercises below. For extra credit, do all six or do one of them more than once.

1 Create even more beauty in your home through clutter clearing, cleaning, organizing, and decorating. Even though you’ve already started this journey, perhaps you can take it even further: Is there another closet to clear, another shelf to dust, another nook to beautify? If not, can you do so in your car, your storage space, or your place of employment? Create beauty, order, harmony, and peace in your own space, which will emanate waves of grace to the world.

2 Find a beautiful natural setting and spend time there alone. Honor the beauty of the moment. Notice the colors, the scents, the patterns, the movements, and the sounds.

3 For one day, see how much beauty you can bring into the world. In every situation—wherever you are and whatever you’re doing—ask yourself: What can I do to gift the world with beauty right now? Perhaps you can give a coworker flowers, give a cashier a compliment, or tape a five-dollar bill to the inside of a bathroom stall.

4 If you haven’t already, begin the mindfulness habit. Set aside five minutes or more a day to notice your breath. Also bring your mind back to observing your breath whenever you think of it throughout the day.

5 Take action on you soul’s desire for selfless service. During the unicorn portal key visualization in this chapter, you glimpsed your own radiance and saw your own authenticity. If there’s a direction your soul feels joyful about taking in the realm of service (which also may be one and the same with your career), take action on it. One step is all you can take at a time anyway, so take a step. Do a web search, contact a college, get a journal for your writing project, or peruse art classes in your area. After you take one step, take another step, and then another.

6 Make three small changes in your habits that will better support the planet. Most of us are not perfect when it comes to being eco-friendly. Rather, most of us are doing our very best to steadily improve. With that in mind, what are three small changes you can make in your habits that will be in alignment with your devotion to the beauty of the planet? For example, cutting dairy out of your diet is wonderful for the planet, as is composting, walking or biking to work, and abstaining from using plastic bags. Choose three changes like these and take action on making them today.
