Made for Sears, Roebuck & Company by High Standard, the Model 31 was marketed under the “J.C. Higgins” brand name. Its appearance was unusual in one area long, slim panels extended from the forend back along each side of the receiver. As an option, the gun could be supplied with a tape-measure-style nylon web sling, which was mounted inside the buttstock. The gun was later redesigned to become the Model 34, but the internal mechanism was essentially the same, and the instructions generally can be used for either gun.
