My grandmother always had sugar cookies in her pantry. We grandchildren would empty that big jar quickly; those cookies were the absolute best!

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup 2% milk
1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Cover dough and refrigerate 15-30 minutes or until easy to handle.
2. Preheat oven to 350°. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut out cookies into desired shapes, and place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets.
3. Bake 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
