Lucy's Age: 19
I felt like I'd been run over by a truck. There were depths hinted at in Geoffrey's journal entries that he'd never exposed to me, but even that paled against the fundamental truth I'd learned.
Venice had been right all along. There was a core of goodness to Geoffrey that exceeded even my wildest dreams. He hadn't done what he did out of cold calculation. He'd done it because it was the right thing to do, the only way to begin atoning for his sins. He'd paid the ultimate price to redeem himself, to create the possibility of a future with me, and in doing so he'd proven to me that the darkness inside of him was weaker than the light.
He'd erased the doubts that had plagued me since finding out he was a vampire, but now that he'd proven himself to me, there was no longer any way for me to tell him that I wanted to run away with him. His act of redemption had killed the man that I'd known.
I wanted to dive into his journals, to begin scouring them for every detail of his life. Even the darkness I knew was contained inside of those leather volumes no longer scared me. My knowledge that the light had been greater than the darkness rendered the darkness somehow less.
I forced myself to put down the journal and instead picked up my phone and texted Venice.
We need to talk. Something has just come up and I think you deserve to see it.
Nearly three hours passed before I got my response.
I'll do what I can to break away tomorrow. I really need to see you right now too. Imastious is on to something. I'm not sure how much time I have left.
