‘Watson, I want to demonstrate one of the fundamental principles of deduction. Mrs Hudson, would you join us please. I have three handkerchiefs here: two of them are white, one is blue. Now both of you shut your eyes while I put one handkerchief on each of your heads. I will hide the third handkerchief so you don’t know which one it is. Then I want you to deduce which colour is on your head.’ They did as they were told. ‘Right, Mrs Hudson, open your eyes. Can you tell me what handkerchief is on your head?’ She shook her head.
‘Well now Watson, from what Mrs Hudson said, I’m sure you can tell me your colour?’
‘But she didn’t say anything, Holmes.’
‘Exactly.’
What colour was Watson wearing?
