STICK OR TWIST?

Cosmo has written three different numbers on pieces of paper and puts them face down on the table. He offers to buy his friend Mack a drink if he picks the biggest number. ‘Choose one piece and turn it over,’ he says. ‘If you think that’s the biggest number, say stick. If you don’t, you can swap to another number. You can stick with the second number, or you can twist again. So you’ve got a one in three chance of winning.’

‘Actually, I reckon I have a one in two chance,’ says Mack.

What is Mack’s ingenious strategy?
