SECRET NUMBER CLUB*
On his first day at college, maths student Derek found the following curious note in his pigeonhole:
‘I belong to a secret code club. Each of us has a special whole number (between 6 and 9) and before we write down any number we always add our own special number to it. There are 10 members in the club, and there are 6 others who have smaller numbers than me, and 5 with bigger numbers than me. All of our special numbers add up to 27. If you can tell me my number and those of the other members, you can join the club. Yours, Archie Meades.’
Derek was convinced that there was a mistake, but he was wrong. Can you help him?
