This week, be inspired by the leftovers and remnants from previous projects, like little bits of canvas. Combined with thick layers of paint, you'll have a small piece of art for your fridge in no time.

1. Glue canvas together and paint

Cut two pieces of primed (or scraps of painted) canvas to approximately 1½″ × 2½″ (4cm × 6cm). Glue them together, back to back. Paint one side white. Let it dry.

2. Glue on a canvas square

Cut or rip a scrap of canvas to a size slightly smaller than the first piece, and adhere it to the white side of the first piece using craft glue.

3. Paint

Using a palette knife, crudely smear some paint over the piece. This can be as random as you like — have fun with it.

4. Add a stencil

While the paint is still wet, stick a small stencil into it as an embellishment.

5. Paint a border

Apply an accent paint color in just a few spots. This also helps to smooth down the stencil. Allow the piece to dry.

6. Add text and finish the piece

With a fine-point permanent marker, add some text to a light or white area. Let it dry. Paint the back of the piece, if you wish. Then glue a magnet to the center of the back. Apply a coat of polyurethane to the piece, if desired.
