PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Now that you have completed Gumshoe in the Dark, we hope that you have become a Mortimer Angel fan, joining New York Times best-selling author John Lescroart in his opinion of the Gumshoe series: “Gumshoe is by a large margin the best and most entertaining mystery I’ve read in at least the past couple of years. Rob Leininger captures the voice and heart of the classic PI mystery and manages to make it completely original at the same time. No small feat. And Mortimer Angel is my new favorite Private Eye.”

The series starts with Gumshoe. Mort has just quit his thankless job at the IRS and is now a PI-in-training. Four hours into the job, he discovers Reno’s missing mayor’s body—make that the mayor’s head—in the trunk of Mort’s ex-wife’s Mercedes. From day one, Mort’s career careens out of control.

In Gumshoe for Two, as Mort is searching for the missing sister of a beautiful girl, he receives a FedEx package—inside is the severed hand of a U.S. senator. He’s starting to build a reputation as the “finder of body parts.” This time it has disastrous, heart-rending consequences.

Gumshoe on the Loose is the third in the Gumshoe series. Mort is hired by a young girl and as his investigation proceeds, he finds the body of missing rapper Jo-X in her garage. Another body found. And this time, Mort picks up an alluring young assistant who will change his life.

Gumshoe Rock starts with the startling finding of a skull—stripped clean and white—dropped through the slit roof of his girlfriend’s convertible. Grappling with this brings Mort to the most lethal situation of his life—so far. He’s suffered incalculable losses in his short PI career, but nothing more horrifying than the trap embedded in Gumshoe Rock.

We hope that you will read all four of the “Gumshoes” that preceded Gumshoe in the Dark. And if you do, we promise you an enjoyable, humorous read in each, but—and this is a big promise—there will be an explosive ending in one of these novels that you will not forget.

Happy Reading!
