Hand-moulded Bumblebee & Ladybird
FOR THE BUMBLEBEE
1/// Colour some of the sugarpaste (fondant) yellow. Fit a piping (icing) bag with a number 2 round nozzle and fill with white royal icing and another bag with black royal icing.
Roll a small piece of yellow sugarpaste into a small sausage. Roll out the white sugarpaste to a thickness of 5 mm (¼ in) on a work surface lightly dusted with icing (confectioners’) sugar. Cut out a shape with a 5-petal flower cutter and use two of the petals for wings.
2/// Paint three stripes on the body with black food colouring. Attach the wings with edible glue. Mark a smile on the front of the body with a scallop tool and pipe two dots with the white royal icing for eyes.
Let the icing dry for 10 minutes before adding a small black dot to each eye with the black royal icing. Leave to set before using.
FOR THE LADYBIRD
1/// Colour the sugar-paste (fondant) red.
Fit a piping (icing) bag with a number 2 round nozzle and fill it with white royal icing.
For each ladybird, roll a piece of red sugarpaste into a small sausage and mark a line along the length.
2/// Paint six black spots on the ladybird’s back with black food colouring. Paint the face on one end and pipe two small white pearls of royal icing on top for the eyes.
Leave the ladybird to dry before using.
