Adam J. Cox, Ph.D., ABPP, is a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist. As an advocate for children’s mental health, Dr. Cox travels extensively, providing workshops for those who share a commitment to the healthy development of children. He has been widely quoted in a variety of media about psychological issues pertaining to families and youth. Publications include the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Time magazine, Family Circle, Child, Psychotherapy Networker, and many others. Recently, he has been featured on Parent Report, CBC’s Metro Morning, Parent’s Journal, Mr. Dad, NBC 10!, and National Public Radio’s Radio Times and Voices in the Family.
Dr. Cox became a psychologist from a nontraditional path. While working as a fine artist near New York City, he opened a studio and welcomed children who wanted to learn how to draw and paint. This experience introduced him to the joy and creativity of mentoring children, which developed into the focus of his career as a family psychologist. He subsequently earned his doctorate in psychology from Lehigh University and completed his clinical training at Friends Hospital in Philadelphia.
A passion for the emotional well-being of children and adolescents led Dr. Cox to initiate the Mighty Good Kids™ Workshop for Social and Emotional Development—a program that helps children with learning or attention problems, Asperger’s syndrome, and other behavioral challenges develop social skills and self-control in a focused, supportive environment. His first book, Boys of Few Words: Raising Our Sons to Communicate and Connect, was published in 2006. A newsletter for families and teachers, Family Matters, is available at www.dradamcox.com.
