The tartness of Granny Smith apples and cranberries is tamed by the golden sweetness of maple syrup … a scrumptious pie!
YIELD: ONE 9˝ PIE
1 recipe Open Sesame double pie crust
Prepare dough and set to chill.
5 or 6 Granny Smith apples
1 cup chopped cranberries
½ cup maple syrup
1 t. nutmeg
1 t. cinnamon
pinch of cloves
pinch of salt
juice and zest of one lemon
2 T. flour
½ cup toasted walnuts (optional)
Mix filling ingredients together in a bowl. Toss gently until thoroughly mixed. Mound over the bottom pie crust; cover with top crust or latticework. Bake as directed in pastry recipe.
